Definition of a Veteran

According to Merriam-Webster, the definition of a veteran is a former member of the armed forces.¹ This encompasses individuals from various branches: Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard, and Space Force.

Yet the essence of a veteran goes beyond a dictionary definition. A veteran is someone who willingly devoted a chapter of their life to serving the U.S. Government. They embody values of integrity, dedication, and camaraderie. Veterans stand united, treating their teams as family and demonstrating unwavering respect for authority.

Identifying a veteran isn’t straightforward; they represent every background imaginable-ethnically, religiously, racially. Found across economic spectrums, veterans span generations, reflecting a diverse and resilient community.

These remarkable individuals have made profound sacrifices—years, dreams, family time, mental and physical well-being—ensuring the freedoms we cherish today. Veterans are the backbone of our nation, symbolized by the flag they hold dear, a testament to the sacrifices engraved on their hearts.

This Veterans Day, we pay tribute to all who have served, those in service, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Sierra Experts proudly stands as a veteran-owned business led by our Founder and CEO, Bruce Freshwater.
