The role of Project Manager is vital to the ongoing success of any business or organization, and at Sierra Experts this is no exception. From handling customer inquiries to making sure new projects are being completed in an accurate and timely manner, the person in this role helps to keep the business running smoothly. Our Project Manager, Becca Hays, is a great example of what a Project Manager should be. Additionally, Becca goes one step further by always being ready and willing to face any challenges that may come her way. For this reason, among many others, we have chosen Becca for this month’s employee spotlight.
Early on, Becca realized that computer technology was going to be the wave of the future, so she learned everything she possibly could in order to prepare herself for an ever-changing business landscape, which is where her interest in IT began. In addition, Becca has always loved helping people, and for the majority of her life has offered her assistance to the elderly and handicapped individuals. With that, Becca combined both interests by attending Pittsburgh Technical Institute (now known as Pittsburgh Technical College) to obtain a degree in Computer Forensics, as well as the Western School of Health and Business where she received a degree as a Medical Assistant Specialist.
Prior to working at Sierra Experts, Becca started out serving as a contractor before quickly rising to the role of Project Manager for a home delivery division of FedEx where she stayed for seven years. This is where Becca met her now-husband, Justin.
On a normal day at Sierra, Becca can be found creating quotes for new projects, reviewing project progress with the development and engineering teams, coordinating with vendors and customers for out-of-state work, and contacting both active and previous customers. Regarding this, Becca stated,
“It is important to keep in touch with people, whether they are current or past customers. People tend to respond negatively to businesses when they never hear from them. So being able to reassure customers that Sierra still holds their needs as a top priority leads to better outcomes and potentially new business.”
When asked about her favorite aspects of the job, Becca said that she loves that every day is a challenge, which is her greatest motivator. She also loves the fact that she’s always learning something new. The work environment at Sierra Experts is another part of the job she enjoys. Becca says that unlike bigger corporations, you feel like a real person at Sierra and not just a number.
Outside of work, you can find Becca participating in marathons with her husband, visiting a zoo, or spending time with her Australian Sheppard, Ruger (or Roo for short). When it comes to film, Becca’s favorite movie to watch is Pretty Woman because it shows life’s struggles and how to overcome adversity. In five years, she hopes to become more established at Sierra Experts while taking on larger projects and more responsibilities, but overall she states that she can see herself at Sierra for the long haul.
