Twitter has an upcoming rival that might steal the show. Recently announced by Meta, “Threads, an Instagram app” released on July 6th, 2023, and has many similarities to the blue bird. The app will allow users to like, comment, repost and share ‘threads’ (rather than a ‘tweet’). The app’s description states that “…threads is where communities come together to discuss everything from the topics you care about today to what’ll be trending tomorrow.”
While some are skeptical of the app’s launch, many are excited about the Instagram connected app. Users who join Threads can directly link their Instagram account, permitting them to use their Instagram account and keep their unique username; this is a clever way to utilize the 2 billion active users on the app.
Meta conveniently announced the launch of Threads days after Twitter’s new restrictions that impact user experience; these limitations include the amount of Tweets unverified accounts can view in a day as well as access to Tweetdeck, which is a dashboard that allows you to view multiple timelines in one place. These changes led to widespread uneasiness and disappointment among users. It won’t very surprising if Twitter’s users place their loyalty in Threads within these upcoming months.
After hearing about Meta’s new app ‘Threads’, do you believe it can replace Twitter?
